FurWell at Barkingham offers semi-annual comprehensive exams for senior pets and those with chronic conditions. Twice-yearly wellness checks help detect health changes early and keep your pet feeling their best.
As pets age, their health can change rapidly between annual visits. Semi-annual exams — scheduled every 6 months — allow our veterinary team to monitor organ function, weight, dental health, mobility, and other critical indicators more closely. Early detection of age-related conditions like kidney disease, arthritis, and diabetes leads to better outcomes and improved quality of life.

Our veterinarians perform a thorough nose-to-tail exam, checking all body systems for changes since the last visit.
We compare current findings to previous exams to identify trends or new concerns that require attention.
Based on findings, we adjust your pet's care plan including diet, exercise, medications, and monitoring frequency.

One human year equals approximately 5-7 pet years for senior dogs and cats. A lot can change between annual visits.
Twice-yearly exams reduce the window during which health problems can progress undetected, improving treatment success rates.
Chronic conditions like hypothyroidism, kidney disease, and heart disease are better managed with more frequent monitoring and medication adjustments.
Regular check-ins give senior pet owners peace of mind and ensure aging pets receive proactive, compassionate care.
Senior pets (generally 7 years and older for dogs and cats) benefit most from semi-annual exams. Pets with chronic conditions, on long-term medications, or with a history of illness may also benefit from more frequent monitoring regardless of age.
Semi-annual exams follow the same format as annual wellness exams and typically take 20-30 minutes. Our team may also recommend additional diagnostics like bloodwork or urinalysis depending on your pet's age and health history.
Bring your pet's current medications, any supplements, and previous health records if available. Fasting is not required unless bloodwork is being performed. Our team will advise you when scheduling.
Semi-annual exams can catch kidney disease, liver changes, diabetes, heart disease, dental disease, arthritis, and weight changes early. Detecting these conditions earlier gives us more treatment options and improves outcomes.
